Excitement is building up in the rapidly growing Oloitokitok following the near the completion of a new water project.
The Rehabilitation and Augmentation of Oloitokitok Water Supply and Sanitation project is set to boost water access to 60,000 residents on Oloitokitok, Ilasit, Nkama and parts of the border town of Tarakea.
Governor Joseph Ole Lenku together with officials of Athi Water Works Development Agency visited the 90 percent complete project today to inspect its progress that will see a full solar powered station reduce the cost of pumping water at the source of Nolturesh water.
” Our mission to ensure Nolturesh water benefits Kajiado residents first is on course.We are really keen on reducing the cost of pumping water in our projects and that is why we have gone solar,” said Governor Lenku.
6,000 water meters will be installed at various households
4,720 solar panels will be able to produce 1.5 MW of energy in a new effort to cut costs of water supply.
Four pumps at the source will be used to pump water along the 16 km of pipeline that is being laid down.
Governor Lenku said both the Nolturesh Springs and the intermediate solar powered pumping stations are both 98 % complete.
 construction of the 15 km trunk and lateral sewers were complete.
